About Ed

Ed Carnes is a technology executive with over 30 years of progressively responsible technology and business management experience - domestic and international - in high-tech and numerous other industries and has worked for companies such as EDS, Perot Systems, NCR, Dell, and Sony/ATV Music Publishing. In addition, Ed has founded two of his own businesses, an Information Technology Consulting company and a Managed Services Provider company.

Ed has held P&L responsibility from the department and division to corporate international levels. His track record includes management of global technology teams and budgets, creation and direction of an international consulting practice, planning and creation of numerous technology re-engineering implementations, and cost-saving initiatives in the US and UK. Ed is adept at creating organization from chaos and fixing IT issues. His core competencies include financial savvy, technical expertise, and understanding of new concepts quickly and efficiently.

Ed is a champion Fiddle player and has won titles in 5 states and was Runner-up in two National Fiddle competitions.  He has co-founded a U.S. IRS 501(c)(3) charitable corporation to educate about and perpetuate fiddling as an art form and cultural treasure, three non-profit companies related to fiddling and music education, and a non-profit technology trade organization. He is an accomplished and National Oldtime Fiddlers’ Contest Qualified fiddle judge and has two solo recordings of his music available. He is featured on several fiddle music collections and has appeared on the WSM Grand Ole Opry multiple times. 

Ed has been named an Honorary Kentucky Colonel, served as a member of the Microsoft Partner Research Panel, and earned both a Bachelor of Computer Science degree and a  Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. He is a native of Kentucky and has a wife and two grown children.

• Reorganized and restructured Technology and Content Delivery areas of a $300M International Music Distributor for Americas region, overhauling finances with over $4M IT budget, guiding new hybrid-cloud technology architecture, and slashing costs by 33% ($50K) per month in 3 months by eliminating waste and implementing cost-controls and spending accountability in IT and business departments.

• Developed international technology team in 40 offices in 35 countries, managing P&L and capital budgeting with over $5M budget. Decreased development spending by 50% in 12 months. Instituted financial tracking in all IT areas for cost containment, fiscal responsibility and vendor accountability.

• Directed technology teams of 112 (13 managers in 13 countries with 10 languages) with a $20M plan in Europe/Middle East/Africa area. Owned Country/Regional P&L responsibility, organized regional teams, and developed financials measurements and objectives in less than a year.

• Founded and operated two profitable companies to provide Information Technology Consulting, Management Consulting and Managed Services for customers across the US and the UK.

• Co-founder, EVP, COO, and Vice-Chairman of Grand Master Fiddler Championship Inc., a Tennessee nonprofit, IRS 501(c)(3) charitable corporation formed to sponsor and perpetuate fiddling and fiddle music

• Co-founder and CEO of Twin Lakes National Fiddler Championship competition and Kentucky nonprofit corporation

• Technology Director for Texas Old Time Fiddler Association, a Texas nonprofit, IRS 501(c)(3) charitable corporation

• Driving force to have hometown of Leitchfield, KY named as “Fiddling Capital of Kentucky” by Kentucky Legislature

• Honorary Kentucky Colonel
