Competition Operations & Improvement

Run a Better Competition

Helping established competitions become fairer, smoother, easier to manage, and less stressful for organizers, volunteers, judges, and contestants.

Most competitions already have traditions, people, and processes that work. The goal is not to change everything. It is to identify what causes delays, confusion, complaints, unnecessary work, or avoidable risk—and make practical improvements that fit your event, your people, and your budget.

Every competition has its own traditions, people, challenges, and current

priorities. We can help identify what is causing problems, what is already working well, and what practical improvements make sense without changing what makes your event unique

Common Problems We Help Solve

  • Competitions that run too long or consistently finish later than planned
  • Rules that create confusion, disputes, or inconsistent enforcement
  • Judging processes that are unclear or difficult to manage
  • Scoring or tabulation that takes too much time
  • Registration and contestant flow that create bottlenecks
  • Volunteer teams that are stretched too thin
  • Recurring operational problems that come back every year
  • Organizers who want an experienced independent review before making changes

Every competition is different. The goal is not to impose a standard formula, but to identify what is causing problems and make practical improvements that fit the event, the people, and the budget.

Experience Matters

Competition operations advice is most useful when it comes from someone who has actually lived it. I have spent nearly five decades competing, judging, organizing, and operating fiddle competitions, with more than 20 years designing and running events at the local, state, regional, and national levels.

That experience includes the practical realities that do not always show up in a rulebook: keeping events on schedule, working with judges and volunteers, handling contestant flow, resolving issues quickly, and making changes without losing the traditions that matter.

Not Sure Where to Start?

Many established competitions begin with a consultation, Competition Review, or Competition Timing & Schedule Plan. We can talk through what is working, what is not, and what kind of help makes sense.
